ICTS Big Data Research Symposium

91快活林's AHEAD Institute and the Administrative Data Core Services at Washington University in St. Louis co-hosted the third annual Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS) Big Data Research Symposium on Sept. 25.

This cross-institutional event welcomed leaders and researchers in big data from across the St. Louis region to showcase administrative data research aimed at improving health outcomes, quality of care and health service delivery.

Leslie Hinyard, Ph.D., AHEAD executive director and HCOR department chair, had the honor of announcing the 2025 Collaborative Administrative Data Research Award at this event. This award will support utilization of two Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS) Just-In-Time (JIT) Cores ($5,000 each) in addition to matching funds from each institution ($5,000 each), for a total award of $20,000 direct costs.

ACCME Accreditation

91快活林 School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

Credit Designation

91快活林 designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

91快活林 School of Medicine will provide Other learner certificates (APPs, nurses, and other types of learners).  The certificate will state that the activity was designated for 2.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.  Follow your board's requirements for reciprocal CE credits.

Poster Presentation Guidelines
  • Poster dimensions: The recommended dimensions for posters is 30 by 40 inches.
  • Poster display: Easels, poster boards and pushpins will be provided at the symposium for all poster presentations.
  • Poster printing: The Academic Technology Commons at the Pius Library can print posters for faculty, staff and students. Their print studio offers professional grade printing, scanning and finishing options to support student projects, conference presentations and other needs you might have. Contact the Academic Technology Commons at atc@slu.edu.
  • Poster content:
    • When designing your poster, consider your audience and focus on the main points that you are trying to communicate to your audience. The audience at this event is comprised of ICTS members, researchers, faculty, staff, doctoral students and medical students.
    • The general components of a research poster include the title, abstract, research question, methodologies, results and conclusions. Sections may vary.
    • The poster should include researcher names and affiliations, and funding acknowledgments, if applicable.
    • Graphics, visuals and charts should be utilized purposefully to convey information.
    • It is recommended to limit the amount of text to between 300 and 800 words.
    • The objective is to create an organized and concise poster that can be explained in 5 to 15 minutes.
Abstract Submission and Review 

The submission period for abstracts has now closed.

Those eligible to submit abstracts for the poster session and oral presentations include faculty from 91快活林, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Missouri who have an active ICTS membership. Residents; fellows; and doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students with a faculty sponsor who is an ICTS member are also eligible to submit abstracts. If you are not an ICTS member, you can easily register here.

Abstracts must utilize big administrative data sources for the investigation of health outcomes and health services research. Examples of administrative data sources include electronic health records, medical claims, Health Care Cost and Utilization Project, Veterans Affairs, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Abstracts will be blinded and graded by a team of reviewers. The abstract submission deadline is at 11:59 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2024. Notifications of acceptance will be sent no later than Monday, Aug. 5, 2024. Select abstracts will be chosen for oral presentations.
